Death of CD promo?

I've been working with a research team recently, looking into some of the possibilities out there for digital only promo sending to cut down on wasted CDs kicking around the office and also to make the most of the interesting and varied systems out there. Both record labels (promo senders) and the music industry at large (promo receivers) have very different needs when it comes to pre-release music promos.

In some ways CDs are a necessary evil right now due the patterns of work and long formed habits individuals and organizations have formed over the years. But it seems with time attitudes are changing. The digitalization of music has opened and closed views in society over the past ten years, and right now it's strange that music professionals and amateurs alike would not to want to embrace the efficiency and ease of use of the many multi-faceted digital delivery systems out there. Is the CD dead? Would you pay for a CD? ? Would you pay for a digital download? Interesting times ahead.

Sound Cloud, FatDrop, Fastrax, DigiDJ and many more smaller scale websites and services are out there for digital audio delivery, bundled networking and delivery, and i imagine many other great services for labels and DJs. Check em out!
