CLPE Documentary Sound
Documentary sound recordist at CLPE London, filming inspirational children's poets and illustrators.

The Centre for Literacy in Primary Education has a database of online film resources available for teachers. I have had the pleasure to work as sound mixer / recordist along with film maker Chris Bradley in capturing some of these films.
A trip to CLPE is always an education, as the poets and writers being recorded are so creative with words and have often had several books (in many cases a LOT more than this) published over the years. Notable individuals I have recorded on visits to CLPE are John Agard, Stephen Camden, Karl Nova (see below clip) and Roger McGough, but there have been so many more.
Typically the recording set up would be a boom and lav, allowing for a choice or blend of these to be used in post. The main challenge with this location, being in central London, is air traffic noise… and while manageable with short carefully timed takes can go so far, there have been occasions when news helicopters have been constantly circling making for a frustrating session. The setting of the old school library creates a perfect mood for the content being filmed, but sound proofed it is not!
