Turmoil Podcast
Producer and mix engineer for this University of Warwick Energy GRP Podcast hosted by Dr. Mathieu Blondeel, exploring the challenges and opportunities of the global energy transformation.

Remote recording has become a very stable option for podcast interview capture in recent years, meaning there is much scope for series such as this, and the need to link up with guests based in Belgium, Netherlands, and multiple cities across the UK, while achieving intelligible speech. And given the theme of the podcast discussion It is also good to know that unnecessary travel was avoided for all involved across the production.
I always like to take a few minutes with the podcast guests and host prior to pressing record so as to try and eliminate any unwanted sounds or noises where they are located and also to get the most out of which ever microphone is being used (which is more often than not something very basic). It is the little tweaks at this stage that help speed up the mix process later on, plus it is nice to make a connection with those you work with, albeit briefly, as a friendly introduction.
In addition to the recording, the production of a unique ident was also commissioned to accompany the series. Designing ident music in the early stages of production is very useful as the flow and feel of the ident can work with the voice intro and outro in a complementary manner. As such, small additions of sound design were added to subtly surge into the intro voice, and a fuller beat driven section was created to roll on after host voice overs.
